Nearly 3,000 procurement, design and management professionals from across the Indian Subcontinent visited the exhibition, many starting the process of procurement to meet the vast needs of India’s rapidly growing airport infrastructure. With leading government bodies and many civil aviation companies headquartered in Delhi, the capital provided a large percentage of visitors to the show. Other major Indian cities were also well represented, with visiting senior airport and airline officials from Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai, among many other parts of the country. International visitors were recorded from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North and South America. A total of 142 exhibiting companies from 18 countries experienced the strength of Indian demand, Making new contacts, taking orders and arranging appointments across three busy days at New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan Exhibition Centre. Participating firms presented a complete cross-section of airport technology and included national groups from Germany (the German Airport Technology & Equipment Group – GATE) and the UK (the British Airport Systems & Equipment Association). The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr Ashok Chawla, India’s Civil Aviation Secretary, who expressed his delight in welcoming inter airport to India. He saw the show as “an opportunity for Indian airport and airline managers to learn about the state-of-the-art technologies which will go a long way in the rapid development of our aviation infrastructure.” Also taking part in the inaugural ceremony was Dr K Ramalingam, Chairman of the Airports Authority of India and also Chairman of the Advisory Committee for inter airport India. A further highlight was a successful programme of seminars which took place alongside the exhibition. Covering future airport development and the growth of civil aviation in India, these were attended by more than 150 delegates, providing participants with a valuable insight into this booming market. Reacting to what was universally appreciated as a busy show, Michelle Kilian, Sales Manager of Meggitt Fuelling, typified exhibitor comments by saying, “We’ve had a fantastic show, secured all the contacts we wanted with the airlines, Defence Ministry, etc and we’ve been very busy.” Ron Pfafflin of Reelcraft Industries noted with pleasure that his company had made about 60 good leads and was very satisfied with the results of exhibiting. Some exhibitors extend their stay in India to accommodate appointments made for immediately after the show and had high expectations of closing further deals. Alan McPherson, Group Chief Operating Officer at Tensator, noted a real enthusiasm amongst visitors and characterised India as a very live and dynamic market. The Executive Vice President of Siemens Ltd, Mr S Banerjee, commented that his entire global team was very satisfied with the event, having met important professional visitors who showed keen interest in Siemens’ products. Mr Dieter Heinz, President of GATE confirmed his approval of the event. GATE hosted a pavilion of 25 leading German companies, many of whom expressed their satisfaction at new business generated. Schmidt in particular had much to be pleased with, having sold two of its new AS990 Airport Sweepers to Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). In what promises to be an even more successful event in an even busier market, the second edition of inter airport India will be held from 25 to 27 March 2008. The show venue will again be the Pragati Maidan Exhibition Centre in New Delhi. Stephen Brooks, Chairman of organisers Mack Brooks Exhibitions Ltd said, “In developing markets such as India, we would expect to organise shows on a two-year cycles or as one-off events according to need. However, the pace of change at India’s airports is so fast right now that we have agreed to make an exception and organise a second exhibition in New Delhi in 2008, just one year after this successful first show. We’re convinced this serves the best interests of participants, given the fact that the show will grow second time around and be even more compelling because of Indian airport developments that are getting underway.”

inter airport trade shows covering airport
technology and equipment are to establish a new event in India. Mack Brooks
Exhibitions have announced that The decision to take the well known inter airport
brand to India, one of the world’s fastest growing commercial aviation
markets, is in part a response to considerable interest from representative
industry organisations, in particular German Airport Technology and Equipment
(GATE). Welcoming the announcement that the first inter airport
India exhibition was to take place, GATE’s President Dieter
Heinz said: “We are delighted to learn that A positive response to the planned New Delhi event has also come from the British Airport Services and Equipment Association (BASEA), the Netherlands Airport Technology Group (NAT) and Finpro Marketing in Finland. The launch of inter airport India comes at a time of rapid growth in the country’s civil aviation market. In the 12 months to March 2005, passenger numbers using Indian airports grew by 21.7 per cent to 59.3 million. This rapid upward trend is forecast to continue. Delivering the airport capacity to meet increasing traffic demands is now a major focus for the Indian government and aviation authorities.
