Thyssenkrupp Elevator recently unveiled one of its biggest ever projects in the Middle East - a total mobility solutions package comprising 143 passenger boarding bridges (PBB) and four elevators in the new Istanbul Airport (ISL) in Turkey. The new airport is Turkey’s largest infrastructure investment to-date and when all four development phases are complete it will become the world’s largest airport with six runways and an annual capacity of 200 million people. Phase one was officially opened on 29 October2018, featuring two runways and a terminal ready to accommodate up to 90 million people per year. Critical to the airport’s operational capacity, Thyssenkrupp Elevator’s PBBs and elevators offer a fully integrated solution to help ensure a seamless and efficient flow of people from airport entry to boarding the aeroplane, according to the German company. ThyssenKrupp’s PBBs have been designed and manufactured following the highest standards for state-of-the-art technology, and are equipped with well-proven, robust components. The PBBs were manufactured at the company’s factory in Mieres, Spain, and then transferred to Istanbul where installation work began in 2017.
