ADB Safegate is set to deploy its A-VDGS and SAM solution at LaGuardia Airport

12 February 2018

ADB Safegate is set to deploy its Advanced Visual Docking Guidance System (A-VDGS) and SafeControl Apron Management (SAM) solution at the new Central Terminal B facility at LaGuardia Airport (LGA), NY. The Central Terminal B replacement project is the beginning of a new vision for the overall redevelopment of LaGuardia Airport. It will improve the travelling experience for millions of people and be a major economic generator for the region. The project is part of an innovative public-private partnership (PPP) between LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP) and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ). LGP, a private consortium of airport experts including Skanska-Walsh Joint Venture (SWJV), will design, build, operate and maintain the Central Terminal B facility. To help the airport ensure consistent performance during normal or adverse conditions, ADB Safegate will automate aircraft docking at the new terminal by deploying 38 Safedock T1 A-VDGS and SAM. SAM uses the A-VDGS as intelligent sensors at each gate and will be integrated with the airport operational database (AODB) and building management system (BMS) to provide the airport and other stakeholders with updated flight information, gate status and turn progress in real time. The deployment also includes advanced functions such as an interface with passenger boarding bridges, an apron scan for obstacles and expanded ramp information display system (RIDS) to further enhance safety and awareness at the gate. Delivery, installation and commissioning of the Safedock T1 A-VDGS and SAM will take place in phases beginning in early 2018 and will be completed by 2022 when the new terminal is fully operational. The new LaGuardia Central Terminal B will be a 1,300,000-ft², 35-gate terminal and will feature dual pedestrian bridges that span active aircraft taxi lanes and will connect the main part of the terminal to two island concourses. Passengers will be able to walk above the aircraft as they make their way to their gate, all while enjoying views of the iconic Manhattan skyline. Meanwhile, Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), ON, has chosen ADB Safegate to supply its A-VDGS and SAM integration solutions. Automating the aircraft parking process at Toronto Pearson with the Safedock T1 will help airlines park aircraft in all weather conditions and create a safer operation by reducing the opportunity for error, according to ADB Safegate. Christian Onselaere, CEO at ADB Safegate, said: “Toronto Pearson was among the very first Safedock A-VDGS customers in the world. Our longstanding association has given us an understanding of their business and operations that will be incorporated into this comprehensive ramp solution that will help future-proof their operation and allow their A-CDM system to work from approach to departure. This will make it easier to manage apron operations and ensure the highest level of safety and efficiency.”
