Safran Identity & Security has been selected by the Sultanate of Oman to consolidate the country’s multiple identification systems into one multi-biometric platform. The platform has been launched to support public security and the development of tourism in the country. Safran Identity & Security’s Automated Biometric Information System (ABIS) platform will enable the various solutions to communicate with each other and manage all the biometric databases, including fingerprint, facial and iris recognition, and DNA, all within a unified system. The ABIS will provide biometric services such as enrolment, identification, and verification for all national systems involved in ensuring the security of the Sultanate. These include civil identity, public security, border control and criminal identification. Samuel Fringant, executive vice president for security division at Safran Identity & Security, said: “This contract allows us to consolidate our relationship with Oman and strengthen our local presence through sustained investment, especially in the area of high technologies.” The company has previously supplied Oman’s local authorities with an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and a similar system for expatriate workers through iris recognition.
