Portland International Airport, OR, has installed the largest number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at any airport in the US, with 42 PowerPost stations located in its long-stay parking lot. The charging stations have been designed and manufactured by technology developer Telefonix and were chosen for their Level 1 charging capacity and retractable cord reel. Level 1 charging is ideally suited for long-dwell parking since one hour of charging typically recovers around five miles of range. Bill Williams, business development manager for Telefonix, electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) division, said: “This installation makes a huge statement. The electric vehicle movement is gaining steam and will continue to do so. Facilities like Portland International Airport are acknowledging this growing community and are sending a signal that they support those who are embracing electric vehicles by installing stations for both airport employees and travellers.”
