Iberia Airport Services (IAS) has won a total of 17 licences out of the 20 it bid for to supply handling services to Spanish airports, AENA has announced. IAS has won licences for third-party ramp services in Madrid, Barcelona, Majorca, Malaga, Alicante, Asturias, Bilbao, Girona, Minorca, Reus, Santiago de Compostela, both airports in Tenerife, Ibiza, Gran Canaria, as well as two of three lots of smaller airports including the airports in La Coruña, Leon, Pamplona, Santander, San Sebastian, Vigo, Vitoria, Albacete, Badajoz, Cordoba, Granada, Jerez, La Palma and Melilla. Angel Marcos, Iberia’s Airports director, said: “This is a great outcome for Iberia and it reflects the efforts made by the airline and its employees to offer very competitive bids with an excellent quality-price ratio. Iberia is Spain’s largest handling operator, with the greatest experience and versatility, and now with costs that enable us to compete against any other operator.” A new labour agreement of the airport handling sector guarantees the jobs of employees at airports where their companies’ handling licences are not renewed. Such workers will be reassigned to the operators that have won the bids. Iberia says it will work closely with AENA and other handling operators to ensure that this process is carried out in the most professional manner, guaranteeing workers’ rights and the best attention to customer airlines.
