Boston Logan gets new Vanderlande BHS
26 January 2015
Vanderlande is set to install the new baggage handling system at Boston Logan International Airport, MA, after being awarded a USD 71.5 million contract by Turner Construction and airport operator MassPort. The decision was made reportedly because of Vanderlande’s past experience on two enabling projects at Boston Logan, coupled with a recent project at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The project includes approximately 7,500 ft of conveyors, 20 vertical sorters and 26 high-capacity diverters. These will be fitted in the baggage screening areas in Terminal E – East and West, Terminal C and Terminal B2, as well as the modified central baggage re-inspection areas. Vanderlande said that its main challenge would be keeping the systems ‘live’ during the project, while adhering to industry regulations and standards. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-2016.
