Bremen Airport installs Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN 10080 XCT
26 June 2013
Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN 10080 XCT has been installed at Bremen Airport in Germany, the equipment’s first fully operational deployment. The advanced Explosives Detection System (EDS), which uses X-ray imaging and CT (Computed Tomography), allows the airport to upgrade checked baggage screening at Terminal 3 to the highest ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference) EDS Standard 3 requirements for the first time. Hans Zirwes, Vice President of International Sales at Smiths Detection, said: “The HI-SCAN 10080 XCT is ideally suited for the installation at all airports requiring high baggage throughput while lowering operational costs. Standard 3 requirements will be mandatory for new EDS equipment at EU airports from September 2014 onwards.” The XCT, which provides an imaging solution based on Smiths Detection’s dual-view, dual-energy, X-ray technology and CT from Analogic Corporation, is claimed to be one of the fastest, largest tunnel-sized checked baggage screening systems that is EU Standard 3 certified. With a belt speed of 0.5 m/sec, the HI-SCAN 10080 XCT can screen up to 1800 bags per hour.
